Welcome to Teazle Wood Trust
The Teazle Wood Trust was founded in 2015 by the Friends of Teazle Wood, who formed in 2011 to campaign to save Teazle Wood, 57 acres of woodland in Leatherhead, Surrey.
The campaign was successful, and the Friends raised enough money in donations and loans to purchase the wood in 2012.
Teazle Wood Trust consists entirely of volunteers. We own and take care of an essential English woodland, with ecology, community, heritage and education at the heart of all that we do.
The story so far...
How it started
The privately owned woodland suddenly came up for auction in 2012. On 31st July 2012, after an amazing campaign led by Lucy Quinnell, Teazle Wood was purchased by the Friends of Teazle Wood. The aim was to secure the wood from any possible development and to keep it in perpetuity as a woodland ecosystem and a nature reserve.
How we did it
The purchase was made possible by generous people, businesses and organisations who cared about saving the wood for the future. They both donated and loaned money to help meet the auction date deadline. We are still actively fundraising, to pay back those who kindly loaned money to purchase Teazle Wood, and to pay for essential tree care too major for volunteers to carry out. We greatly appreciate any support you can offer.
How we manage it
In February 2015, the Friends of Teazle Wood founded the charity that manages the wood and ensures its safe future: the Teazle Wood Trust, registered charity number 1160532.
